As a lifelong Florida resident, I’ve seen all that our amazing state has to offer. From a Florida man doing something crazy every day to alligators and crocodiles wrestling in public parks, our state is full of surprises. However, seeing the state turn blue in the 2026 election cycle would be one of the biggest surprises of all. Looking back, Florida used to be a crucial swing state for most elections. In fact, the 2000 election between George Bush and Al Gore came down to one county in Florida. Ever since then, Florida has just gotten redder and redder, and every election has moved us further and further away from that swing state status. With how it is nowadays, I just don’t see a chance of us being blue as soon as 2026. This is Trump’s home state and a lot of people down here really love him. I feel like I pass by a Trump flag on a cybertruck every day on my way to school. We have a republican governor as well, and he’s pretty popular too. A lot of people were talking about having him as the next presidential candidate, and it’s a real possibility in the future. We also have a lot of rural areas in the state, especially to the north, and those tend to vote a lot more red. While things do tend to change over time, I would say as a Floridian that we have at least a decade before there’s a chance of Florida turning blue.
