When you think of a traditional center in college basketball, you think of a guy who does his work in the post and gets rebounds. When you think of Danny Wolf, you think of someone who isn’t as traditional as a past center in basketball, because of his ability with 3s and dribbling.
Danny Wolf is an Israeli-American basketball player who is currently attending the University of Michigan and playing basketball. Danny grew up a die-hard fan of Michigan, so when the chance opened up to him to transfer to the University, it was a no brainer. How did Danny get here, though?
As a young kid, Danny grew up in Glencoe, Illinois, alongside his two brothers and one sister. Both of his brothers, Josh and Jake, played collegiate-level basketball during their time in college at smaller universities. Danny grew up in a Jewish household, staying kosher and celebrating the holidays to this day. In his childhood, Danny went to a Jewish day school up until fifth grade. Afterward, he began attending Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts and playing basketball at the school. Danny started to make a name for himself, receiving multiple division one offers and ultimately committing to Yale after he led his team to the finals in the NEPSAC league.
When Danny got to Yale, he slowly became a star. After having a quiet freshman year, as a sophomore, Danny shined. Danny put up all league numbers, earning himself a Unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection. Additionally, Danny was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Ivy League Tournament in the 2023-2024 season. The hype was starting to rise for Danny, a 7 footer who could not only shoot 3s and dribble like a guard, but rebound better than anyone as he averaged 9.6 rebounds per game. In the NCAA tournament, Yale upset Auburn but ultimately lost in the second round in a hard fought game to San Diego State.
With Danny’s stock rising and potential transfer portal NIL deals coming in, he decided to enter the transfer portal. In the portal, many teams went after Danny due to the amazing potential he displayed at Yale. Michigan came out on top, and ever since then, he has been striving. At the University of Michigan, this season, Danny has been averaging 13.1 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game, which leads the Big Ten Conference. Danny also has earned All-Big Ten second team honors. This season was no surprise due to his history.
It is exciting to see a young Jewish man like Danny show off his talents at such a high level. When the season ends, expect to see Danny declaring for the NBA draft and getting drafted in the first round. To this day, Danny carries his Jewish identity with him at all times, even being one of the best young talents in the sport.
